The YMCA of Greater Charlotte contracted Refresco to provide commissioning services associated with the installation of a new HVAC unit to serve the Fitness Area. The commissioning process proved invaluable as errors in installation and unit performance were discovered during both prefunctional and performance verification inspections. The resulting of the process was a fully working HVAC system that will provide exceptional occupant comfort and energy performance.
Neighboring Concepts contracted Refresco, PLLC to provide
an Energy/Economic Evaluation and Conceptual Design Package for the adaptive
reuse of the abandoned Caraustar Mill Facility. Refresco examined
various strategies for HVAC, plumbing, and lighting systems to determine
the most cost effective way to transform a turn-of-the-century paper mill
into a LEED certified mixed-use facility.
Recommended strategies will provide enhanced occupant comfort
and control while minimizing life-cycle costs of the facility.

Refresco was contracted to provide a comprehensive energy analysis and condition
assessment for the major mechanical, lighting, and plumbing systems present
at the Brevard Street Facility, located in Charlotte, NC.
Energy analyses revealed considerable energy savings
possible from a more effective time-scheduling and off-hour control scheme
for major mechanical systems. Additional energy savings were identified from a rebalancing
of the outdoor air provided to the space (currently over-ventilated). The
relocation of key thermostats was suggested to provide better occupant comfort
and control.
Condition assessments revealed equipment in need or replacement, and provided
the county a prioritized list to help plan their capital expenditures in
the future.
Refresco provided full MEP design services (electrical
through an allied partner) for the replacement of five air handling units
at the Dr. Carlton G. Watkins Center. Three of the systems were upgraded
to changeover-bypass from constant-volume reheat systems, with considerable
energy savings expected.
The project also entailed the full replacement of the building
DDC system. The
new controls shall utilize an open protocol system, and will fall in
line with the County’s stated goals to have a uniform, remotely accessible
operating platform for all their facilities.
Refresco provided full MEP design services (electrical through an allied
partner) for the replacement of a cooling tower and underground condenser
water piping serving the Mecklenburg County Criminal Courthouse in Charlotte,
NC.
Project is scheduled to be completed in late spring, 2008.
The Wallace H. Kuralt Centre, originally constructed
in 1974, houses the Mecklenburg County Division of Social Services. Refresco
was contracted to provide a comprehensive energy analysis and condition
assessment for the major mechanical, lighting, and plumbing systems.
Energy analyses revealed considerable energy savings
possible from an extension of the existing DDC system to allow more effective
means of time-scheduling and off-hour control of major mechanical systems. Improvements
to the existing demand controlled ventilation system were suggested to
provide better indoor air quality conditions for occupants.
Condition assessments revealed equipment in need or replacement, and provided
the county a prioritized list to help plan their capital expenditures in
the future.
Refresco provided full MEP design services (electrical
through an allied partner) for the addition of a dehumidification unit
for the natatorium at the Siskey YMCA branch in Matthews, NC. The
dehumidification unit replaced an existing heating and ventilation unit,
and will considerably improve the interior conditions for swimmers in the
summer months.
Project is currently under construction with an anticipated completion in
May 2008.
